Siamak Yousefi, PhD, FARVO

Siamak Yousefi is an Associate Professor in both the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Genetics, Genomics, and Informatics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2012 and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) and another at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in computational ophthalmology. He is the director of the Data Mining and Machine Learning (DM2L) laboratory at UTHSC. Dr. Yousefi’s research focuses on applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning to improve diagnostic and prognostic tools for eye diseases, particularly glaucoma. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and has received significant funding from the NIH to develop AI-enabled models for glaucoma diagnosis and prognosis. In recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr. Yousefi was honored as a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
